Consumer Reports has released a preview of their Chevy Volt review and made it clear they won't be lumped in with those fanboys over at Motor Trend Magazine, the Green Car Journal, or the panel of 49 auto journalists who awarded it the North American Car of the Year. It's not surprising that a heated debate has ensued; emotions are high and when hot-button issues like climate change, oil independence, government subsidies, and gas prices are dragged in, the proverbial gloves come off. But the discourse around this article, whether at AutoblogGreen, Business Insider, or the Detroit Free Press has descended into a particularly scornful, petty mess. This experience highlights the clear need for the EV movement to more proactively engage with the mainstream media.
